DS Smith Kemsley Paper Mill Provides In-Depth Look Into Cardboard Recycling

DS Smith organized a tour of the new Fibre & Paper Development Laboratory at Kemsley Mill.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): DS Smith- the leading European paper packaging company conducted an Open Day at its Kemsley Mill on 16th May, Tuesday. The event was attended by representatives from five different Local Authorities. The event offered an in-depth look into cardboard recycling and papermaking process.

The participants included representatives from the London Borough of Havering, Buckinghamshire Council, Medway Council, West Sussex County Council, and Gravesham Borough Council. The attendees were extended a warm welcome by Jonathan Edmunds, Head of Recyclability, Sustainability and Government Affairs at DS Smith’s Recycling Division.

The Open Day provided opportunity for participants to gain much deeper understanding of the entire papermaking process, right from the point where cardboard is collected from kerbside to where it gets converted into fibre, which eventually ends up in cardboard packaging. The event highlighted the significance of source segregation and the need to ensure quality of recycling.

DS Smith organized a tour of the new Fibre & Paper Development Laboratory at Kemsley Mill. In addition, the tour also showcased the full papermaking process, from pulp preparation to the final product.
