worldsteel Recognized Ten Steelmakers as 2023 Steel Sustainability Champions

The first edition of the award had selected only six members.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has named 10 steel companies as the 2023 Steel Sustainability Champions in recognition of their outstanding sustainability efforts during the previous year. This is the sixth year of award. It must be noted that the Sustainability Champion awards were launched in 2018.

The 2023 Steel Sustainability Champions are ArcelorMittal, HBIS Group Co. Ltd., Hyundai Steel Company, JFE Steel Corporation, JSW Steel Limited, Nippon Steel Corporation, POSCO Holdings, Tata Steel, Tenarium and Ternium, said the press release by the steel trade body.

The first edition of the award had selected only six members. The number of award winners have increased to ten, indicating that more members are being qualified for the most demanding sustainability recognition in the industry. Tata Steel and Tenaris have been recognized in all these years. The first time winners include Chinese HBIS Group Co. Ltd. and Hyundai Steel Company in South Korea.

In order to be recognized as Sustainability Champions, the members are required to sign the worldsteel Sustainability Charter, provide Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) data to worldsteel’s data collection programme and be shortlisted in one of the 6 categories of the worldsteel Steelie Awards or be recognised in the worldsteel Safety and Health Recognition Programme
