Top Plastic Recycler Announced Collaboration with SAMHS

As part of the initiative, recycling bins and cages have already been placed at the base kitchen and accommodation blocks.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Petco South Africa- leading PET plastics recycler announced that it has partnered with the South African Military Health Services (SAMHS) on a new recycling initiative. The collaboration will run a separation-at-source project for waste at the SAMHS training centre on Lephalale city outskirts in Limpopo province.

Petco has collaborated with the SAHMS since late 2021. For the past two years Petco has been organizing annual recycling workshops at the military base, providing necessary training to the recruits to identify, categorize, sort and separate various types of recyclables. The separation-at-source initiative, launched last month, is the latest in the series of collaboration.

As part of the initiative, recycling bins and cages have already been placed at the base kitchen and accommodation blocks. The bins and cages, once filled up, will be taken by Petco to a shipping container for recycling. The innovative community program will enable diversion of recyclables from landfill.

Cheri Scholtz, CEO, Petco South Africa noted that the company believes in strengthening and developing relationships with both the public and private sectors. Recycling must be a joint effort by the industry and government, in order to be successful, Scholtz added.
