Schnitzer Steel Elected as World's Most Sustainable Company

The company has made significant steps to integrate sustainability into its operations.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Schnitzer Steel Industries, Inc. has been named the most sustainable company in the world by leading media and research organization, Corporate Knights. The 19th annual Global 100 List is being prepared after comprehensive assessment of 6,720 companies, with revenues exceeding $1 billion.

The Portland, Oregon-based metals recycling leader moved higher from 15th spot on Corporate Knights’ ranking in 2022 to the number one position in 2023. The company had launched GRN Steel, a line of net zero carbon emissions finished steel products, during the previous year, which in turn delivered significant improvement in sustainability performance. Schnitzer’s efforts to reduce environmental footprints have helped it to earn the top spot on the Global 100 List.

The company has made significant steps to integrate sustainability into its operations. In addition to making capital investment in industry-leading emissions control technologies, the company has also delivered continuous improvement in employee engagement and management practices.
