CMC Declared Construction of Micro Mill in Berkeley County

The planned micro mill would be among the world’s most environment-friendly steelmaking operations.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Irving, Texas-headquartered Commercial Metals Company (CMC) has selected Berkeley County, West Virginia, as the site of its fourth micro mill (MM4). The site is located in eastern side near Martinsburg, in close proximity to key markets in the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

The state-of-the-art mill, built at an expense of approximately $450 million, will be capable of producing straight length and spooled rebars of different dimensions. The production capacity of the micro mill is estimated at around 500,000 tons per annum. The plant will offer nearly 230 full-time jobs. It is scheduled to commence operations by end-2025, said the company press release.

Barbara R. Smith, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, CMC noted that the company is pleased to establish the company’s manufacturing presence in West Virginia, which offers several advantages including cordial business climate and skilled labour force. Furthermore, he thanked Governor Jim Justice, the West Virginia economic development team, and the Berkeley County staff for their support.

The planned micro mill would be among the world’s most environment-friendly steelmaking operations. Moreover, it will add to its operational network throughout the Eastern U.S. region.
