U.S. Steel Announced Launch of Carnegie One Capital Campaign

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Pittsburgh-based United States Steel Corporation (U.S. Steel) announced the groundbreaking celebration for the Carnegie One Capital Campaign to renovate the Braddock Carnegie Library. The ceremony, held in partnership with The Braddock Carnegie Library Association (BCLA) and the Pittsburgh Penguins, was attended among others by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and other dignitaries.
During the event, David B. Burritt, President and CEO, U.S. Steel committed an additional $500,000 to the renovation, in addition to the already committed $500,000, thus bringing the company’s total contribution to $1 million. The goal of the campaign is to raise a funding of $18 million. It must be noted that the state of Pennsylvania has also invested $1 million to the project through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) and $750,000 through the Department of Education.
Burritt noted that the Braddock Carnegie Library is the first of the several libraries funded by U. S. Steel founder Andrew Carnegie. The library is part of the fabric of this region and the renovation will breathe new life into the building, he added.
The proposed renovations and additions include a performance hall, retail space, gymnasium, print shop, ceramics studio, and areas designed for kids and teens.
