SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) announced launch of a new awareness campaign, which intends to raise awareness on the potential harmful environmental and economic impacts of the new rule proposed by the General Services Administration (GSA). The new rule by the agency proposes a ban on federal government and its agencies from purchasing single-use plastics.

The Association noted that the plastics industry has been investing billions of dollars to boost recycling of plastic waste in the U.S. It looks forward to collaborate with the administration in developing effective recycling solutions that reduce plastic waste. The educational campaign will emphasize on the implications and potential impacts of such rules and the associated cost burden which could harm several dependent industries as well.
Matt Seaholm, President and CEO, PLASTICS noted that the proposal from GSA would run counter to the administration’s environmental goals to reduce emissions. The implementation of the policy would cost axpayers millions and millions of dollars. Also, it would force the use of products and materials that likely have a much larger environmental footprint than plastic products, he added.
