The Aluminum Association Hailed Inquiries on Foil Imports by Commerce Department

The suspected duty evaders will be soon provided with questionnaires by the Commerce Department.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Aluminum Association applauded the U.S. Commerce Department for self-initiating inquiries on aluminum foil imports from China that are completed or finished in Thailand and South Korea. These imports were allegedly avoiding the payment of antidumping and countervailing duties.

The inquiry covers flat-rolled aluminum products produced in China and finished in Thailand and South Korea that are 0.2 mm or less in thickness in reels weighing more than 25 pounds and that is not backed.

The suspected duty evaders will be soon provided with questionnaires by the Commerce Department. The interested parties will be provided opportunities towards submission of relevant information to the agency’s proceedings. The investigation is expected to be completed in almost a year. A preliminary determination will be made during the coming months.

Charles Johnson, president and CEO of the Aluminum Association commended the Commerce Department for taking the important step to enforce trade laws. The decision demonstrates strong commitment to maintaining the hard-won gains for the U.S. manufacturing sector. The association looks forward to work closely with the Department to ensure a successful outcome after the completion of the inquiry, he added.
