Paper Industry Committed to Take Circularity to a New Level
According to the report, recycling has formed an increasingly important part of the paper manufacturing process.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The European Paper Recycling Council (EPRC) announced publication of European Declaration on Paper Recycling 2021-2030. The report suggests the commitment by the paper value chain to take circularity to a new level by the end of the current decade.
According to the report, recycling has formed an increasingly important part of the paper manufacturing process. The industry has already increased recycling rates to high levels. However, maintaining the recycling rates, which have reached theoretical maximum, has been challenging. The declaration highlights the paper industry’s commitment to boost the recycling rate to 76% by 2030, compared to levels of 73.9% achieved in 2020.

The document outlines the importance of optimizing the management of paper at every step of a continuous recycling loop. As each step in the process is a distinct industrial sector, thorough co-operation among these is necessary to reach the ambitious recycling target, it says.
Annick Carpentier, Chair of the EPRC noted that every piece of paper and board will help to bring it closer to the ambitious recycling target. All projects and campaigns aimed at promoting recycling in Europe will turn out to be game changers, Carpentier added.
