Wieland Broke Ground on New Copper and Copper Alloy Recycling Facility in Shelbyville

The facility was initially announced in May last year.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Wieland broke ground on the new copper and copper alloy recycling facility located on 79 acres off McConnell Way in Shelby County, Kentucky. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by the Governor and other elected officials, project partners and neighbouring businesses among others. The facility was initially announced in May last year.

The plant will melt and recycle copper and copper alloy scrap, which in turn will be used in manufacturing semi-finished products across North American region. The recycling facility is considered as Wieland’s first manufacturing facility in the state of Kentucky and is expected to create up to 75 new jobs to the local community. It must be noted that the company’s North American headquarters is located at Louisville, Ky.

Matt Bedingfield, President of Wieland North America Recycling and Senior Vice President of Global Metal Supply stated that the company is excited to grow its footprint in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. He recollected the incredible support from Govenor Beshear, as well as county and local leaders. Furthermore, he announced the company’s commitment to strengthen its presence in the state.

Ulm, Germany-headquartered Wieland has been expanding its market leadership in the U.S. over the past few years.
