Stora Enso To Convert Paper Line at Langerbrugge Site
The converted line is expected to begin production in 2025.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Stora Enso announced that it has initiated a feasibility study at its Langerbrugge, Belgium paper production site towards conversion of one of its paper lines at the site into a high-volume recycled containerboard line. The conversion is expected to support the growth opportunity created by the rising demand for recycled packaging board, the company noted.

The site currently has two paper lines in production, one for newsprint and one for supercalendared (SC) magazine paper. The feasibility study will explore the possibilities of converting the site’s newsprint paper line and is expected to be completed in the first half of 2023.
The converted line is expected to begin production in 2025. The line would have an annual capacity of 700,000 tonnes of testliner and recycled fluting grades. At full capacity, it is projected to generate annual sales of approximately EUR 350 million. Stora Enso plans to invest a total of approximately EUR 400 million on the conversion project.
Hannu Kasurinen, Executive Vice President, Packaging Materials division, Stora Enso noted that the conversion project at Langerbrugge would establish a competitive position for the company in Western European region as well. It must be noted that the recycled containerboard currently produced in Poland mainly serves the Eastern European market alone.
