New Advanced Plastic Recycling Plant to be Built in Spain

As per the terms of the agreement, Plastic Energy will build a new advanced recycling plant in Sevilla, Spain, which will be the company’s second plant in the region.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): London, UK-based Plastic Energy announced that it has entered into an agreement with French TotalEnergies towards development of an advanced plastic recycling project in Spain.

As per the terms of the agreement, Plastic Energy will build a new advanced recycling plant in Sevilla, Spain, which will be the company’s second plant in the region. The plant will employ patented recycling technology to transform end-of-life plastic waste into recycled feedstock. This will be converted by TotalEnergies into virgin-quality polymers, which in turn are used in food-grade packaging applications such as flexible and rigid food packaging containers.

The plant will have capacity to process and convert nearly 33,000 post-consumer end-of-life plastic waste every year, that would otherwise end up in landfills. It is expected to become operational by 2025.

The two companies had earlier announced a joint venture project in September last year to build a 15,000 tonnes per year plastic waste conversion facility in France, which is likely to become operational in 2023. In addition, the two companies in partnership with Freepoint Eco-Systems, had committed to build a 33,000 tonnes per year recycling plant in Texas, USA, which is expected to be operational by mid-2024.
