Schnitzer Steel Fiscal 2021 Sustainability Report Highlights Major Progress
It achieved the goal of 100% net carbon-free electricity use at its facilities ahead of our original 2022 schedule.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Schnitzer Steel published the company’s Fiscal 2021 Sustainability Report. The report titled “Essential Recycling, Sustainable Products, Successful Communities” highlights the company’s ongoing commitment to create a more sustainable future by resorting to low-carbon future technologies.
Schnitzer Steel recorded strong progress on multi-year sustainability goals. It achieved the goal of 100% net carbon-free electricity use at its facilities ahead of our original 2022 schedule. Also, the company achieved significant progress in achieving our goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from recycling operations by 25% by the end of fiscal 2025 by reducing greenhouse gas emissions from metal shredding processes by 25%.

According to the report, the company delivered its best operating results in a decade and recorded the safest year in the company’s 116-year history.
Commenting on the achievement, Tamara Lundgren, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Schnitzer Steel said that the 2021 Sustainability Report showcases the different ways in which the company delivered on its sustainability commitment by providing quality recycled metals, affordable recovered auto parts, and low-carbon finished steel products to customers around the world.
