World Ferrous Scrap Trade Is a Mixed Bag

The cumulative scrap imports by the country stood at around 5.32 million tons in the first ten months of the current year.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The recent statistics published by the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance suggests that scrap imports by the country totalled around 382,000 tons during the month of October this year. This is significantly down by 36.4% from the previous year and by 6% over the previous month. The cumulative scrap imports by the country stood at around 5.32 million tons in the first ten months of the current year.

The data released by the Pakistan Federal Bureau of Statistics (PFBS) suggests that the country imported around 347,900 tons of scrap in October 2021. The imports were up by 5.1% over the previous month, but significantly down by 15.4% from the same month a year ago. The imports by the country were valued at roughly $204.1 million.

Taiwan imported around 2.6 million tonnes of ferrous scrap in the initial ten-month period of the current year. The largest source of imports was the U.S., which supplied around 1.1 million tonnes. The monthly imports by Taiwan totalled around 259,800 tons in October 2021.

Meantime, Brazil exported around 54,200 tons of ferrous scrap in October this year, down by 26.16% from September 2021 and also down by 14.3% from October 2020. The largest export destination was Bangladesh, which received 14,400 tons, followed by India and Pakistan with imports of 14,300 tons and 13,800 tons respectively. The cumulative exports during Jan-Oct ’21 totalled approximately 400,500 tons.
