Fresh Agreement to Boost Plastic Recycling in Senegal

The plastic waste will be used for manufacturing various new products including stools, tables and packaging.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Proplast Industries- the Senagalese company thjat specializes jobsin plastic waste recycling announced that it has reached an agreement with the public organization Solid Waste Coordination and Management Unit (UCG) towards boosting plastic recycling in the West African nation of Senegal. The new agreement aims to recycle 200 tons of plastic waste per year.

As per the terms of the agreement, UGC will be responsible for collection, cleaning and transport of household plastic waste from neighbourhood collection points to Proplast Industries. The plastic waste will be used for manufacturing various new products including stools, tables and packaging.

The recovery of plastic will help to reduce costs associated with sanitation and pollution control campaigns. As per rough estimates, the country had produced over 4 million tons of waste in 2019. In addition to curbing pollution, the new project is expected to create jobs in the country, noted Mass Thiam, Coordinator, UGC.

Earlier in September 2020, the company had started an initiative named “Recuplast” in order to set up a network for the collection and sale of plastic waste and recycled by-products in the country. The primary aim of the project was to reduce proliferation of plastic waste in Senagalese streets.
