AISI Report Indicates Notable Surge in Steel Output

The cumulative year-to-date U.S. raw steel production totalled 71.409 million NT, through the week ending on October 2, 2021.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. weekly raw steel output recorded notable increase by 21.6% during the week ending on October 2, 2021, when matched with the comparable week in 2020. This is in accordance with the latest weekly domestic production statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

The U.S. weekly domestic raw steel output totalled 1.872 million net tons (NT). The domestic mill capability utilization rate was 84.8%. It must be noted that the production had totalled only 1.540 million NT at a much lower capacity utilization rate of 69.0% during the corresponding week a year before. On the contrary, the weekly crude steel production declined marginally by 0.4% over the week. The production was 1.880 million NT during the week ended September 25, 2021.

U.S. Steel Mill Capability Utilization Soared to Hit 85%

The cumulative year-to-date U.S. raw steel production totalled 71.409 million NT, through the week ending on October 2, 2021. That is up by 20.3%, compared to the production which totalled 59.381 million NT during the same period in 2020. The capability utilization rate too recorded notable jump from 66.8% to 81.1% over the year.

The Southern region steel mills posted an output of 774,000 net tons during the week. The production by Great Lakes region stood at 649,000 net tons. The steel output by other regions (in thousand net tons) is as follows: North East-177, Midwest-196 and Western-76.
