New Modern Plastic Recycling Facility Set to Open in Eastleigh

It will boost the efforts to significantly increase Hampshire’s recycling capabilities.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Hampshire County Council announced that it plans to submit a planning application for setting up of a recycling facility on Chickenhall Lane, Eastleigh. The application will be funded by Hampshire County, Portsmouth City and Southampton City Councils. The facility will expand the range of recycled materials, adding new materials such as plastic pots, tubs and trays, glass and cartons.

Commenting on the development, Councillor Rob Humby noted that the new plastic recycling facility would be an important development for the entire county. It will boost the efforts to significantly increase Hampshire’s recycling capabilities.

The existing recycling facilities in the County are capable of handling only the materials used during the time in which they were built. Since then, there has been a major change in consumer behaviour, thereby adding more material categories, which they are incapable of handling. Upgrading existing facilities to add new materials into their processing stream is a costly process, he said.

The plan also includes setting up of a Material Analysis facility, which will provide details on the quantity and quality of materials collected and processed. In addition, it also proposes to expand office space and offer welfare facilities and parking space for site employees.
