Smurfit Kappa Survey Highlights Relevance of Sustainable Packaging

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The recent survey conducted among UK consumers by Smurfit Kappa in partnership with Drapers has revealed that type and quality of packaging plays a significant role in their purchasing decision. The survey clearly emphasizes the shoppers’ affinity towards sustainable packaging.

According to the survey, 73% stated that the use of paper or cardboard packaging is vital to them when considering a brand’s level of sustainability. Almost 77% preferred use of as little packaging as possible, whereas 66% stated that they give prime importance to recyclability of packaging.

Almost 49% of the fashion consumers expressed their willingness to pay more for both sustainable packaging and sustainable delivery. Also, nearly one-third of the survey participants they have rejected a purchase for the packaging not conforming to sustainability standards.

Eddie Fellows, CEO of Smurfit Kappa UK and Ireland commented that the survey reiterates the fact that packaging is a visible and tangible signal of a brand’s commitment to sustainability. It reminds businesses on the importance to realize the opportunities in moving to sustainable packaging, he added.
