AF&PA Released Latest Printing-Writing Paper Report

The purchases of uncoated free sheet (UFS) papers witnessed 16% year-on-year surge in June.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released Printing-Writing Monthly report for the month of June this year.

The total printing-writing paper shipments by the country have surged by 10% during the month, compared to the same month in 2020. The purchases of the material by the country were up by 16%. Over the prior month, the total printing-writing paper inventory levels registered decline by 4%.

The purchases of uncoated free sheet (UFS) papers witnessed 16% year-on-year surge in June. Meantime, the inventory levels have dropped by 3% from May 2021. The U.S. shipment of coated free sheets (CFS) edged lower by 4% over the previous year, while the inventory level declined by 3% from prior month. The U.S. purchases of coated mechanical (CM) papers skyrocketed by 41%, with inventory levels witnessing 3% decline. The uncoated mechanical (UM) paper shipments and their inventory levels were down by 9% and 5% respectively, said AF&PA report.

Meanwhile, the total packaging papers and specialty packaging shipments soared 3% year-on-year in June 2021. The shipments during the initial six-month period of the year were up marginally by 2%, compared to Jan-June ’20. The operating rate stood at 90.2%, whereas the mill inventories dropped by 17,000 short tons from the prior month.
