Sonoco Launched Innovative Packaging Technology in Europe

This allows significant reduction or complete elimination of plastic packaging waste.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Sonoco Protective Solutions- a subsidiary of Hartsville, S.C-based Sonoco announced expansion of its innovative packaging technology into Europe through its existing manufacturing facilities in the region. Also, the company intends to expand its proprietary Sonopost technology by establishing a new manufacturing operation in Poland during this summer.

The platform uses corner posts made from 100% recycled paperboard to offer sustainable packaging solutions for large appliances, HVAC units and similar products. These corner posts can be baled with paper scrap for recycling. This allows significant reduction or complete elimination of plastic packaging waste.

The hollow tubes of solid paperboard shaped into special profiles cover corners of the packaging, thus giving strength to edges. The corner posts offer superior stacking strength and crush-resistance. It also braces and supports bulk loads and secures them into tight units. Also, it eliminates the need for other plastic-based packaging materials.

Adam Wood, Vice President and General Manager Paper/Industrial Converted Products Europe noted that the new technology will help European manufacturers to make significant strides in its journey towards sustainability goals.
