Novelis Join Hands with Nissan to Launch Closed-Loop Recycling System

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Atlanta-headquartered aluminum rolling and recycling company Novelis announced that it has reached an agreement with automaker Nisssan to supply aluminum body sheet for the all-new Qashqai SUV. The partnership will launch a closed-loop recycling system in the Europe.
Accordingly, Nissan will use Novelis aluminum in the hood and doors of the SUV, in order to reduce weight and boost fuel efficiency. The use of has resulted in 46 pounds of weight savings for the new SUV model, in comparison with the previous model.

The partnership has established a closed-loop recycling system. The aluminum from Novelis’ Nachterstedt, Germany plant will be delivered to Nissan's car manufacturing plant in Sunderland U.K. Novelis will collect the manufacturing scrap and return it to its recycling centres in Europe, where they will be cast and rolled again, to be supplied to Nissan. The new circular supply chain is expected to help both companies achieve their sustainability goals, said the company press release.
Michael Hahne, vice president of automotive, Novelis Europe noted that it is delighted to provide Nissan with sustainable aluminum body sheet solutions. It looks forward to work with Nissan, which has already announced its intentions of increased aluminum intake and boosting of recycling capabilities.
