New Wisconsin Rapids Billet Facility Set to Start Production
The announcement of construction of the $80 billion facility, which manufactures billets mainly from scrap, was made in January last year.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Brampton, Ontario-headquartered Matalco declared that it intends to start production at its new aluminum billet manufacturing facility at Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin later during this year. The plant is preparing for a production start during the fourth quarter.
The announcement of construction of the $80 billion facility, which manufactures billets mainly from scrap, was made in January last year. The billets from the plant will be mainly supplied to the aluminum extrusion and forging manufacturing industries. The production capacity of the plant is estimated at around 230 million pounds of billets per annum. Upon reaching full production capacity, the facility will create around 60 to 80 full-time permanent jobs in the region.

Robert Roscetti, the vice president of corporate development at Matalco stated that the new plant will allow the company to broaden its geographic footprint in the upper Midwest. The expansion positions the company as the largest secondary aluminum remelt company in the entire North American region, Roscetti added.
The official groundbreaking of the facility was delayed due to permitting delays. Also, the delays on account of Covid-19 further delayed the plant opening.
