SSAB Americas Implements Prioritization of Steel Production

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): SSAB Americas- the U.S. subdivision of global steelmaker SSAB announced that it has decided to prioritize steel production for use in disaster relief projects during the ongoing crisis situation caused by the pandemic.

The company has decided to implement a new designation- Relief Effort Priority (REP) aimed at prioritizing production of steel for use in local, state or federal disaster relief projects. The designation will ensure that steel orders for such projects are expedited through manufacturing process. Accordingly, such orders will be inserted immediately into the production cycle and delivered as soon as possible.

SSAB Americas will give highest priority for REP-designated orders in manufacturing process at its steel mills located in Axis, Alabama and Montpelier, Iowa.

Commenting on the development, Chuck Schmitt, president of SSAB Americas noted that the company is closely monitoring the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic on its employees and customers. The primary concern continues to be the health and safety of its employees and their families. However, it is equally responsible to lend support to all efforts aimed at combating the pandemic. The recent move by the company will contribute to overcoming the challenges ahead, Schmitt added.
