Centerra Gold's Kumtor Mine Receives Permits to Restart Mining Operations

Earlier in December 2019, the Lysii waste rock dump at Kumtor had reported a significant movement, which had resulted in missing of two employees.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Canadian-based gold mining and exploration company Centerra Gold announced that its Kumtor Mine in the Kyrgyz Republic has received all necessary approvals and permits to restart open pit mining operations and to continue milling activity for the rest of the current year.

According to company press release, the Kyrygz state agency has given final approval for the company’s 2020 mine development plan for the Central Pit Development, which also includes a revised waste dumping plan and special safety measures to place waste rock material in the Central Valley Waste Rock Dump and the Sarytor Waste Rock Dump.

Centerra Gold declared that the ramping up of open pit mining is in progress and that full production rates are expected early next week. The processing of stockpiled ore is going on, as planned.

Earlier in December 2019, the Lysii waste rock dump at Kumtor had reported a significant movement, which had resulted in missing of two employees. Consequently, the company was forced to halt open pit mining and ordered to carry out a re-evaluation of the mine plan. As per reports, the company is conducting an internal review. Also, it has been cooperating with authorities on the government enquiry.
