DS Smith Targets Continued Expansion and Growth Across the U.S.

The 52,000 square-foot recycling plant will operate like a paper packing facility.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The European packaging provider DS Smith announced plans to open a new recycling facility in Reading, Pennsylvania, adjacent to its existing paper mills and box plant in the region.

According to Toby Earnest, director of recycling for DS Smith North America, the successful operation of paper mill and box plant in Reading for several years makes it an ideal location for the proposed recycling plant. The proximity to ports will boost material exports to overseas destinations.

The 52,000 square-foot recycling plant will operate like a paper packing facility, while accepting materials from third party haulers, shopping centres and nearby packaging companies. The company plans to install state-of-the-art technology to ensure most efficient operations. Furthermore, the installation of LED lighting will make the facility more energy-efficient, he added.

The company targets to continue its expansion and growth across the U.S. in 2020. DS Smith expects consumer demand for circularity to increase in the forthcoming years, mainly on account of e-commerce gaining traction in the retail sector.
