Smurfit Kappa’s Revolutionary Packaging Solution Wins ScanStar Award
The corrugated inserts which easily slot together result in significantly speeding up the packing process.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The innovative packaging solution developed by Smurfit Kappa for packing lamps manufactured by Swedish lighting specialist IFö Electric has won prestigious ScanStar Award. Incidentally, ScanStar is a joint packaging competition held by the Scandinavian Packaging Association (SPA), which honors innovative packaging solutions designed, constructed or manufactured in one of the Nordic Countries.
The previous packaging solution used by IFö Electric to pack the lamps had led to several complaints, with some of the lamps getting broken in transit. The replacement packaging solution developed by Smurfit Kappa with tough exterior offered significantly higher protection during transit, thereby immediately eliminating complaints.
According to the company, the new packaging solution is made from 100% recyclable material. The corrugated inserts which easily slot together result in significantly speeding up the packing process.
Arco Berkenbosch, VP of Innovation & Development, Smurfit Kappa noted that the development of the innovative protective packaging is part of its Better Planet Packaging initiative- an initiative to reduce packaging waste by creating more sustainable packaging. Adam Dennerkrans, Product Development Manager, IFö Electric, commenting on the collaboration, noted that Smurfit Kappa’s method of work, in complete understanding of its challenges, delivered ideal product to package its lamps, which consist of heavy ceramic base and glass top.
