Global Market for Refined Zinc Recorded Notable Deficit
The global refined zinc metal usage at 6.647 Mt, was a slightly higher over 6.632 Mt in Jan-June ’18.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The latest report published by the International Lead and Zinc Study Group (ILZSG) states that global market for refined zinc metal recorded a deficit of 134kt in the initial half of 2019.
According to ILZSG Statistics Bulletin, the global zinc mine production rose by 1.9% from 6.239 million tonnes (Mt) in Jan-June ’18 to 6.355 Mt in the first six months of 2019. Mine output recorded substantial growth in Australia. Notable jump in mine output was recorded in Namibia, South Africa and Sweden as well.
The world refined zinc metal output edged higher marginally to 6.542 Mt in H1 2019. The higher output from China, Mexico and Peru were balanced by production declines in other countries including Canada, India and the Russian Federation.

The worldwide zinc mine production totaled 1.109 Mt in June ’19 alone. The zinc metal production and usage totaled 1.131.6 Mt and 1.120.7 Mt respectively during the month, ILZSG said.
