Nine Dragons Paper Restarts Shuttered Old Town Pulp Mill
The Old Town Mill had closed in 2015, laying off nearly 200 workers.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): China-headquartered Nine Dragons Paper (ND Paper) - a subsidiary of the Chinese company Nine Dragons Paper (Holdings) Limited- has reopened the Old Town Pulp mill, north of Bangor, after nearly four years. The company had invested $46 million in renovations over the past year.
The Old Town Mill had closed in 2015, laying off nearly 200 workers.
The company has given new life to the mill by fixing the existing equipment and bringing in new ones needed to make the facility running. The boiler at the facility was fired up during the month of February this year.

The official reopening ceremony was held Tuesday, which was attended by hundreds of workers and executives. The mill plans initial production of 150,000 tons of paper pulp upon restart, which in turn will increase to reach 270,000 tons.
The company gifted 100 trees to be planted in the city.
Meantime, Senator Susan Collins noted that the mill offers direct employment to 130 people and additional 900 jobs in the entire supply chain. The reopening of the mill is great news, not just for Old Town, but also for the entire state, she added.
