Kimberly-Clark Reports Progress in Sustainability 2022 Goals
The company’s sustainability goals are centered upon five priorities-Forests & Fiber, Waste and Recycling, Energy & Climate, Supply Chain and Social Impact.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Kimberly-Clark Corporation-the U.S multinational firm that produces mainly paper-based consumer products, has announced that the company has made significant progress in achieving the goals outlined in its Sustainability 2022 Strategy. The report released by the company outlines the progress made during the previous year. The use of recycled fiber in the manufacture of tissue products has recorded tremendous progress during the past one decade, it said.
The company’s sustainability goals are centered upon five priorities-Forests & Fiber, Waste and Recycling, Energy & Climate, Supply Chain and Social Impact.
The report states that it sourced 89% of the fiber used in tissue products from environmentally preferred sources including FSC certified virgin fiber and recycled fiber. The company has increased the amount of FSC certified virgin fiber in its tissue products from 7% in 2006 to more than 84% in 2017. Nearly 95% of manufacturing waste was diverted from landfill. Also, the company achieved 18% reduction in absolute GHG emissions when compared with the 2005 baseline.

Kimberly-Clark has made significant investments in watershed analyses, water treatment and recycling technologies, which has resulted in substantial reduction in water consumption in water-stressed areas. More than 4.3 million lives were impacted by its social programs, mainly women and children. The total global donations and community investments at the end of the first two years of the plan stood at $26 million.
Thomas J. Falk, Kimberly-Clark’s chairman and CEO noted that the company continued to make big strides in its efforts to create positive social and environmental change in 2017. The ongoing commitment to its ambitious set of sustainability goals will have lasting impact on people and communities around the world, Falk noted.
