Resolute to Invest $13 Million in Upgrading Quebec Samwill Facilities

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Montreal, Quebec-headquartered pulp and paper major Resolute Forest Products (RFP) announced major investment at its Quebec facilities. The announcement was made by company management during a press conference which was also attended by Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard, other distinguished guests and hundreds of company employees.
RFP will make investments totaling $12.957 million in its La Doré wood products facilities, located in the Lac-Saint-Jean region of Quebec. The proposed investment will bring in innovative new technologies to aid manufacturing process, which in turn will modernize the mills’ operational processes. Further, the company aims to achieve significant energy efficiency in its operations, building on the solid performance in 2017, despite challenging market conditions.
The proposed investment involves upgrades to several operational areas. RFP plans to completely rebuild the infeed section of sawmill. Also, multiple programmable logic controllers will be installed in order to ensure optimal processing of logs. In addition, a new lumber packaging system will be launched in the planer mill. Finally, the upgrade also involves addition of two new electric boilers, the company said.

Yves Laflamme, president and chief executive officer, RFP stated that the investment is crucial for the future of La Doré facilities. Further, Laflamme also thanked the efforts put in by elected representatives as well as regional organizations in improving the future prospects of ever-changing forest products industry.
