US scrap plastics export surged by over 16% in February
According to latest government data, the exports of scrap plastics by the US witnessed 16.3% jump over the previous month during February 2016.
SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): According to latest government data, the exports of scrap plastic by the US rose sharply during the month of February this year, in comparison with the previous month. The exports surged higher during the month by 16.3% when matched with the month before. Also, the volume of exports were up when matched with Feb ‘15 levels.
The country’s exports of plastic scrap during the month of February 2016 totaled 309.12 million pounds. When compared with the exports during the previous month, the volume of exports was up by 16.3%. The US had exported 265.79 million pounds of plastic scrap during January this year. The export volumes had declined by nearly 13% in Jan ’16 when compared with the month before it. Also, exports increased marginally by 1.5% when compared with those during February 2015. The US plastic scrap exports had totaled 304.55 million pounds during February last year.
The weighted price of scrap plastics export during February this year amounted to 16.94 cents per pound. The weighted price saw marginal decline of 0.4% from January 2016 levels. The weighted price of scrap plastic exports during January this year had amounted to 17.00 cents per pound. Upon comparison with February 2015, the weighted price registered considerable decline of 7.5%. The weighted price of scrap plastics export during February last year had amounted to 18.31 cents per pound.
The US exports of recovered plastic during the initial two-month period of the year amounted to 574.90 million pounds. The exports were down marginally by 1.1% when compared with the exports during the corresponding two-month period in 2015.
The average price of scrap plastic exports during the period from January through February in 2016 was 16.97 cents per pound, which is 10.1% down year-on-year.
