Brazil's pig iron exports declined in February

The most recent export statistics released by the Brazilian Trade Ministry indicates that pig iron exports by the country declined during the month of February this year.

SAO PAULO (Scrap Monster): According to statistics provided by the Brazilian Ministry of Development and Foreign Trade, the country’s pig iron exports during the month of February this year declined considerably when compared with the previous year.

Brazil’s pig iron exports totaled 145,000 tons during the month. The exports dropped by 6.9% when compared with the previous month. The Brazilian pig iron exports had totaled 155,000 during the month of January t his year. When matched with the previous year, the country’s pig iron exports in Feb ’16 were down by 9.6%. The exports had totaled over 160,000 tons during February last year.

The primary destination of Brazilian pig iron exports during Feb ‘16 was the US. The country imported 67,000 tons of pig iron from Brazil during the month, accounting for over 46% of the total pig iron exports by Brazil during the month. The exports to the country were down by 26.8% from the same month a year before. In second place was the Netherlands with 23,000 tons. The exports to Netherlands witnessed decline of 5.6% over the previous year. Argentina imported 21,000 tons of Brazilian pig iron during the month.

Brazil’s pig iron exports had totaled 2.752 million tons in 2015. The total exports had climbed higher by nearly 6.3% from the previous year. The country’s pig iron exports had totaled 2.589 million tons during 2014.
