US mills steel shipments fell 2.1% in July

The US steel mill shipments declined during the month of July this year. The shipments were down by 2.1% when compared with the previous month.

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): The most recent report released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI)- the association of North American steel producers indicates that the US steel mill shipments dropped 2.1% during the month of July this year when compared with the previous month. Also, the shipments in July 2015 were down sharply by 10.6% when compared with the figures recorded during same month the previous year.

According to AISI, the US steel mills shipment for the month of July totaled 7,591,897 net tons, down 2.1% when compared with the total shipments of 7,758,087 net tons during June this year. Meantime, steel shipments in July this year witnessed considerable decline over the previous year. Steel shipments dropped by 10.6% during July ‘15, when compared with the 8,492,744 net tons shipment during July 2014.

The US steel shipments for the initial seven-month period of the year declined by 9.9% to 51.572 million net tons as against 57.270 million tons shipment during the corresponding seven-month period from January to July last year.

The products which witnessed sizable changes in shipments during the month of July when compared with the previous month were: cold rolled sheets (down 1%), hot rolled sheet (down by 4%) and hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip (down 5%).
