Ukraine considers ferrous scrap export restrictions
The Ukranian trade association has requested to implement restrictions on ferrous scrap exports from the country.
MOSCOW (Scrap Monster): The Federation of Metal Manufacturers of Ukraine has requested ferrous scrap export limits in the second half of 2015, according to a report in the Kyiv Post.
The trade association reportedly contacted the Economic Development and Trade Ministry of Ukraine and cited a “major shortage of scrap metal on the Ukrainian market and the threat of stoppage at some mining and metal companies” as the reasons to request the restrictions.
Ukraine typically makes more than 32 million metric tons of steel each year, although due primarily to conflict in its eastern region that borders Russia its production dropped 17 percent in 2014, falling to 27 million metric tons.
