Bucksport Mill Sale Finalized
The former Verso mill in Bucksport officially has a new owner
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The former Verso mill in Bucksport officially has a new owner.
The town’s economic development director confirms the deal is done to sell the property to a scrap metal company in Canada.
We previously reported AIM Development was set to buy the mill for about $60-million.
This, despite the efforts of union workers who filed a lawsuit in federal court, saying the deal broke anti-trust laws.
They claimed Verso leaders ignored other companies interested in buying the mill and keeping it open.
A federal judge disagreed earlier this month, allowing the sale to go through.
More than 500 workers lost their jobs when the mill officially shut down at the end of last month.
A few are still on staff, operating the power plant.
