Sichuan Liangshan's 60% of Silicon Metal Producers Halt Production

Approximately 60% of silicon metal producers in Liangshan, Sichuan Province now have suspended production due to rising costs

BEIJING (SMM): Approximately 60% of silicon metal producers in Liangshan, Sichuan Province now have suspended production due to rising costs, Shanghai Metals Market survey shows.

The increase in costs at local producers is due mainly to higher power prices during low-water period, SMM understands.

Since Nov. 25, the power price in Liangshan has been raised to 0.5-0.53 yuan/kwh with the arrival of low-water period, higher than the 0.44-0.46 yuan/kwh in other regions of Sichuan, according to SMM survey.

Production cuts in the region are expected to worsen further in December following the depletion of raw materials, SMM foresees.
