Aleris initiates aluminum alloy, Aleris 7017

Aleris one of the largest aluminum based private company in the United States, announced that the company is working on a brand new alloy, typically called 7017 aluminum alloy, for the purpose of defending uses as well as for commercial plates.

WASHINGTON (Scrap Monster):

After a whole round of tests and reviews based on the company’s product, the Aleris 7017, by the United State’s Army Research Lab, decided on issuing the product with MIL-DTL-32505, which allows the alloy to be used in advanced armor applications.

The Global Defense, Field Engineer of Aleris, Lawrence Karmer stated that, the alloy which was introduced by the company is induced with eccentric combinations of properties, which makes the alloy, best among the range to contribute to armor solutions. The unique properties of the alloy are corrosion resistance, high strength and also weldability. The alloy is currently made to use in European countries, for the production of combat vehicle due to its high ballistic protection properties.

The property of weldability of the new alloy, is a great boon to the armored vehicle designers, as the alloy is easily weldable and gives the designer an opportunity to come up with new designs for the armored vehicles. The precautious balancing of the elements comprised in the Aleris 7017 gives high resistance in stress and corrosion based cracking in the alloy and also in maintaining the high strength of the alloy.
