Mexico initiates AD investigation on HRC imports
The Mexican Ministry of Economy has initiated anti-dumping investigation on hot-rolled coil steel (HRC) imports from three countries
SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): The Mexican Ministry of Economy has initiated anti-dumping investigation on hot-rolled coil steel (HRC) imports from three countries- Germany, China and France. This follows complaints from domestic Mexican steel makers that imports from these countries have damaged the domestic HRC industry.
Top Mexican steel makers Ahsa and Ternium had demanded that anti-dumping charges at the rate of 102.9% be imposed on HRC imports from China. Further, they had demanded duties to be applied for imports from Germany and France at rates of 27.2% and 14.4% respectively.
According to statistics released by Mexican Iron and Steel Industry Chamber (Canacero), the HRC imports from the three countries under investigation had soared higher by 686% during 2013. The trade association further stated that the dumping of overseas products has crippled the domestic Mexican manufacturers.
Mexico’s Ministry of Economy will examine whether the imported HRC from these three countries were sold in Mexican market at lower prices.
