Royal Canadian Mint Introduces 2014 $5 Lion on the Mountain Silver Coin

The Royal Canadian Mint added a new design in its popular coin series featuring historic Canadian banknotes.

OTTAWA (Scrap Monster):The Royal Canadian Mint added a new design in its popular coin series featuring historic Canadian banknotes. The newly designed coin is 2014 $5 Lion on the Mountain Silver Coin.

The new coin composed of 99.99 pct fine silver and mintage of 8,500. Previously released two coins were of same mintage and sold out. On the reverse side, there is a lion design which was used on the historic banknote from Northern Crown Bank of Canada.

This third coin is an exceptional marriage of art history, engraving and design. It features the one of the ancient symbols. The Royal Canadian Mint has quoted, “Stunning engraving brings to life every detail of the striking lion portrait depicted in the original vignette.”

The previously introduced coins were 2013 $5 Canadian Bank of Commerce Silver Coin, released July 2013 and 2014 $5 Saint George Slaying Dragon Silver Coin, released December 2013.

At the top of coin, there is inscription 5 DOLLARS and at the bottom there are writings 2014 and CANADA. On the obverse, there is Susanna Blunt’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. To the left and right of the portrait, there are ELIZABETH II and D G REGINA inscriptions respectively.
