Electronic companies and organizations join hands to form new recycling coalition

The Sustainable Electronics Recycling Initiative (SERI) has announced the launch of its newly created R2 Responsible Recycling Leader Program which is intended to encourage companies to responsibly reuse and recycle electronic products

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): The Sustainable Electronics Recycling Initiative (SERI) has announced the launch of its newly created R2 Responsible Recycling Leader Program which is intended to encourage companies to responsibly reuse and recycle electronic products.

The founding partners of the program are DirecTV, Microsoft, Panasonic, Sony and Xerox. The coalition partners also include Goodwill Industries International, Greeneye Partners, Keep America Beautiful, SourceAmerica and Wistron Corporation.

The program will take leadership role to promote responsible recycling and reusing practices around the world. It intends to fund pilot recycling projects in developing countries also create new programmes for responsible collection and disposal of electronics. The participating companies and organizations have also decided to support the R2 certified recycling standards managed by SERI and to consider R2 certification when choosing recycling partners.

According to John Lingelbach, Executive Director , SERI, with the launch of the new programme, the partners have taken on leadership roles in managing used electronics. He hoped that the new coalition would contribute towards developing responsible e-waste reuse and recycling policies, programs and facilities.

SERI, formerly R2 Solutions, is a non-profit organization that undertakes educational and other activities to advance responsible electronics reuse and recycling around the world. It is the housing body for the R2 Standard.
