SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Tanzania has been witnessing rapid expansion of its gold industry. The country’s gold export revenues have recorded a significant jump, with mining projects across the East African region gaining considerable momentum.

According to the Bank of Tanzania, gold export earnings increased 37.4% to $5.67 billion during the year ending July 2026. Gold accounted for 47.4% of the country's total merchandise export earnings, highlighting its growing contribution to the national economy.

The Lake Zone, particularly the Geita and Shinyanga regions, remains key to Tanzania's mining industry. These areas contributed 67.6% of national mineral recovery during the first quarter of 2026, according to central bank data.

Established producers, including AngloGold Ashanti and Barrick Mining, continue operating major gold assets in the region. Meanwhile, emerging developers such as Lake Victoria Gold are advancing projects toward construction and production.

According to forecasts by The Insight Partners, the global gold mining market is projected to expand from $293.03 billion in 2025 to $807.89 billion by 2034, representing a CAGR of 11.93%. Tanzania, with its well-established mining infrastructure, coupled with several new projects in progress, is set to further strengthen its position in the global supply chain.

Meanwhile, Mordor Intelligence predicts gold market volumes to jump from 5.1 thousand tonnes in 2026 to 7.25 thousand tonnes by 2031, rising at a CAGR of 7.30%.
