Nickelson Industrial Service Inc

B. L. Nickelson Iron and Metal began operating in 1909 at the current location of Nickelson Industrial Service at 8501 South Baltimore. Morris Lev began working in the scrap business after the depression. He and his brother Joe owned Standard Iron & Metal and Standard Paper Grading. As each of their families grew the businesses could not support their expanded families and in 1969 Morris and son Jeffrey bought B. L. Nickelson Iron and Metal which was a full service scrap yard handling all grades of industrial scrap iron and non-ferrous metals and paper. For several years Morris and his son Jeffrey operated the business as a scrap yard.

Recognizing that a considerable amount of scrap is generated as a result of machinery dismantlement, Nickelson began diversifying into the dismantlement business during the 1970’s hence the name Nickelson Industrial Service. The company began acquiring additional trailers, tractors and dismantling equipment to meet the needs of the new segment of business.

Today after 38 years in business Nickelson Industrial Service is one of the leaders in machinery dismantlement in the Chicago area and northwestern Indiana. The company has done work in northwest Indiana, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, Texas and California.

Nickelson Industrial Service is located on a 4 acre site on the southeast side of Chicago where scrap is processed and trucks and trailer equipment are maintained to support the dismantlement operation of the business. The company also owns a tract of land on the near south side where trailers and boxes are stored to expedite the movement of equipment from job sites.

Safety

Nickelson's goal and commitment to each project is to establish the safest work environment as possible. We have a full-time safety director whose responsibility is to ensure that all safety procedures are followed on every project who also collaborates with our insurance carrier's risk engineers.

'Tool box' meetings are held on every job to review job and safety issues.
