Ed Meyer Sr. and Bill Meyer founded Meyer Steel Drum in 1976, when they opened a steel drum reconditioning plant at the company's current headquarters at 3201 S. Millard Avenue in Chicago. Rapid growth inspired them to expand the business to drum manufacturing. They opened a New Drum plant in 1979 at 5303 S. Keeler Ave., Chicago. As the New Drum division started to grow they'd soon out grown the Keller location and moved to their current location at 2000 S. Kilbourn Ave. where they have been for over thirty years.As the company continued to grow, the reconditioning plant was approaching full daily output. As a result, the Meyers planned for the future growth and acquired the former ICS drum reconditioning plant at 610 W. 81st St. in Chicago in 2003. The Meyers also saw future growth opportunities in the drum closure market and purchased Ideal Gerit Ring, a drum closure manufacturer located at 4401 W. Roosevelt Rd., in 2004. Meyer has since moved the facility to it's present location at 5000 W. 73rd, Unit B, Bedford Park, IL 60638.
Meyer Steel Drum takes the worry and hassle out of drum disposal. We pick up empty drums and thoroughly clean them, using the same rigid process we would use if we were reconditioning them. We then crush the drums for metal recycling.
Empty steel drums waste space and resources, but companies can’t just throw them out. Empty drums must be disposed of in compliance with strict federal, state and local environmental regulations. Even metal scrap companies will not accept drums unless they have been properly reconditioned. We transform used steel drums into refinished drums that look and perform as if they were new but at a much lower cost. Years of reconditioning experience has gone into perfecting and customizing our process to achieve quality performance safely and efficiently.
