Scrap metal originates both in business and residential environments either from renovations, demolitions or old unwanted items. In business it could be left over metal from manufacturing, vehicles or parts from them, a surplus of or obsolete material. In Residential you would see it in items like Copper pipe, copper wire, old patio furniture, bed frame, computer cables, aluminium baseball bats, old faucet, pot & pans, a ladder, etc Once the metal is brought to a scrap yard it would be graded and purchased by weight. The value of the scrap metal is based on what type of metal it is (i.e. Copper, Brass, Aluminium, Lead, Stainless Steel, etc), after that we would see if there's any contaminants like steel, plastic, or rubber, etc. You'll receive the best prices if the scrap metal is 100% clean. The more the contaminants on the scrap metal the less they’re worth. The more frequently recycled metals are scrap steel, iron, lead, aluminium, brass, copper, stainless steel and zinc. was opened in 1985 as a sister company, but soon became the main focus of the business and was recycling all of Alberta’s Aluminum beverage containers.  As business environments changed due to the Alberta Government’s introduction of the Beverage Container Recycling Regulation, we were forced to refocus our attention back into scrap metal recycling of non-ferrous metals.

Myer Cohen & the late William Cohen opened their first yard in the late 1960’s, ABC Scrap Iron and Metal using the slogan “Your Friendly Neighborhood Junkie!”. After many successful years in Calgary and their brother Bernie Cohen joining them, they opened Alberta Metal Processors. This was a large scrap metal recycling facility with an Aluminum smelter & Auto wreckers.  Jeff Cohen joined his father Myer (now retired) and is now the forth generation of scrap metal dealers serving Calgary. His family has been recycling in Calgary since 1918. Over the years we've made many contacts within the industry. Though we may have downsized by dealing in Non-ferrous metals we have the ability to help recycle all types of scrap metal through our networks.  Our main piece of equipment is for the recycling of Insulated copper wire.
