Originally, the company started out by buying old marine scrap. Over the years, North Star Metal Salvage grew and evolved into a full service, non-ferrous metal recycling facility.
In January of 2001, the company was renamed North Star Metal Recycling to bring attention to the benefits of the metal recycling process. Since this time, North Star has been steadily growing due in part to our loyal customer base.North Star is owned by Phil Watson and Harold Folk. There are approximately 10 employees at North Star Recycling and that number continues to rise each year.
North Star Recycling will buy all types of non-ferrous metals. The majority of our processing involves:

-Stainless Steel
-Insulated wires
We also deal with Bx wire, Car Radiators, Car and truck rims, Electric motors, Lead and zinc etc.
After driving into our facility, you will be assisted in unloading your vehicle. Depending on your contents, a bin may be provided for you and placed on our digital scale. Pricing is given on a per pound basis and calculated in front of you.
Later on we will begin the sorting and processing stages. Depending on the type of metal you brought in it may need to be stripped, chopped or cut to get it down to its basic state. After we have accumulate enough material, the product is either bailed or boxed and shipped to foundries where it can be melted down and reformed.
As per the Vancouver city by-law, we are only allowed to purchase material from customers with a vehicle. No walk-ins allowed. All customers must bring a valid piece of identification with them. North Star Recycling will not accept metals that appear to be stolen. These rules help us to prevent property crime in the Lower Mainland.
While buying, sorting and selling metals is our primary area of business, North Star also sells working and non-working specialty units as per availability. As you might imagine, North Star comes across some pretty interesting pieces. This can range anywhere from Jewelry making equipment to industrial sized stainless steel sinks. |
