 What We Do

LKQ distributes a variety of products to collision and mechanical repair shops, including aftermarket collision and mechanical products, recycled collision and mechanical products, refurbished collision products such as wheels, bumper covers and lights, and remanufactured engines. LKQ refers to these products as alternative parts because they are not new OEM products. LKQ is the nation’s largest provider of alternative vehicle collision replacement products and a leading provider of alternative vehicle mechanical replacement products, with sales, processing, and distribution facilities reaching most major markets in the United States. LKQ’s wholesale operations also reach most major markets in Canada.LKQ is a leading provider of alternative vehicle replacement products in the United Kingdom, and in the second quarter of 2013, LKQ expanded its operations into continental Europe through the acquisition of Sator Beheer B.V. ('Sator'), a leading distributor of vehicle mechanical aftermarket products in the Benelux region. In addition to wholesale operations, LKQ operates self-service retail facilities across the U.S. that sells recycled automotive products. LKQ is organized into three operating segments: Wholesale – North America; Wholesale – Europe; and Self Service. The majority of its products and services are sold to collision repair shops, also known as body shops, and mechanical repair shops. LKQ also generates a portion of its revenue from scrap sales to metal recyclers.

OUR COMPANY HISTORY

Since its formation in 1998, LKQ has grown through internal development and over 200 acquisitions. Today, LKQ is the only supplier of alternative parts for the automotive collision and mechanical repair industry with a network and presence serving most major markets in the U.S. and Canada. LKQ is also a leading supplier of automotive aftermarket products in the U.K. and the Netherlands. Initially formed through the combination of a number of wholesale recycled products businesses located in Ohio, Florida, Wisconsin and Michigan, LKQ grew to be a leading source for recycled automotive collision and mechanical products. LKQ subsequently expanded through acquisitions of aftermarket, recycled, refurbished and remanufactured product suppliers and manufacturers, and also expanded into the self-service retail business. LKQ later expanded its aftermarket automotive products through the acquisition of Keystone Automotive Industries, which, at the time of acquisition, was the leading domestic distributor of aftermarket products, including collision replacement products, paint products, refurbished steel bumpers, bumper covers and alloy wheels. In October 2011, LKQ expanded its operations into the European automotive aftermarket business through its acquisition of Euro Car Parts Holdings Limited ('ECP'). They further expanded their geographic presence into continental Europe in May 2013 through the acquisition of Sator, a vehicle mechanical aftermarket parts distribution company based in the Netherlands, with operations in the Netherlands, Belgium and Northern France. LKQ’s European product offerings are primarily focused on vehicle aftermarket mechanical products, many of which are sourced from the same suppliers that provide products to the OEMs.In addition to the acquisition of Sator, LKQ made 19 acquisitions during 2013, including 10 wholesale businesses in North America, seven wholesale businesses in their European segment and two self-service operations. LKQ’s European acquisitions included five automotive paint distribution businesses in the U.K., which enabled them to expand our collision product offerings. Our other acquisitions completed during 2013 enabled LKQ to expand into new product lines and enter new markets. In August 2013, LKQ entered into an agreement with Suncorp Group, a leading general insurance group in Australia and New Zealand, to develop an alternative vehicle replacement parts business in those countries. Under the terms of the agreement, LKQ will contribute experience to help establish automotive parts recycling operations and to facilitate the procurement of aftermarket parts, while Suncorp will supply salvage vehicles to the venture as well as assist in establishing relationships with repair shops as customers.
