In Tolerance Contract Manufacturing

126 29th Street Drive SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, United States | Stainless Steel

In Tolerance was established in 1947 and today is still a leader in the manufacturing of precision machined stainless steel, aluminum and plastic parts primarily for the aerospace industry.

History

In Tolerance was founded and incorporated in 1947 as the Norman Scott Company, Inc in response to a customer request. The customer, Arthur Collins (founder of Collins Radio) had a need for a manufacturer to provide specialty screws, knobs and connectors.

In 1986 Robert D. Becker purchased the company from John Scott (Norman's son). The company then began an active marketing culture and grew several-fold. During this time, the company expanded its manufacturing area and moved into its third (current) location.

The company adopted the name, In Tolerance, in 1988. As the company continued its growth, Jack Hardin, the General Manager, was hired in March of 1992 to bring professional management to the company. Expanding its philosophy of continual improvement, In Tolerance, developed and implemented its own business process control software (Automated Quote Inventory Scheduling System - AQUISS) based on 20 years of employee input and experience.

Since its inception, founded on answering a customer need, In Tolerance has continued to grow its culture of customer responsiveness. Today In Tolerance has established itself as a world-class leader in providing precision custom machined components and assemblies for a wide variety of applications, primarily for the commercial and military aerospace market, but also with customers who represent leading medical, communications, and food processing industries throughout the United States, Mexico Europe, and Puerto Rico.

Awards and Recognitions

In Tolerance has been recognized as one of Iowa's outstanding precision contract manufacturers, and has received numerous awards and recognitions from organizations such as the Small Business Administration (SBA), Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, Rockwell Collins, Carleton Life Support Systems, Trans Technology Electronics, and second tier Boeing Aircraft suppliers.

In October of 1998, In Tolerance was one of the first precision machine shops in Iowa to become ISO certified. In Tolerance has maintained that certification and has since added the AS9100 certification, and in 2015 became Nadcap certified for the special processes of paint, passivate, and chromium conversion with the unique capability to support its own salt spray corrosion testing.

Looking Ahead

In Tolerance continues to innovate in the marketplace by adding capabilities to eliminate waste and reduce cost to maximize our customer's value proposition. In Tolerance has implemented leading edge capacity planning technology, as we continue to raise the bar in our commitment to Customer On-Time Delivery. Due to the growing regulatory requirements and thus customer requirements for documentation, specifically First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR), In Tolerance has found a way to provide the highest quality reporting without impacting the product delivery timeline or cost to the customer.

In Tolerance Commitment:

To provide customer satisfaction. This is the principle that drives our success.

We believe that through quality manufacturing, on-time deliveries and cost effectiveness - our customers will grow and be a source of our growth.

The In Tolerance focus is on innovation as delivered to and perceived by our customer; achieved as a result of constant improvement to our internal processes.
