General Machinery & Manufacturing Company

2634 North Keeler Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, United States | Stainless Steel

General Machinery & Manufacturing Company (GMMCO) manufactures precision CNC lathe turned parts for the energy, aerospace, and transportation markets. A family machine shop located in Chicago, IL, GMMCO has been in business for over 100 years. We have evolved from a basic metal stamping shop to a CNC precision machining operation that manufactures intricate components for dozens of different industries. GMMCO embodies a firm commitment to machining the highest quality products and developing complex precision machining solutions for our valued customers.

GMMCO’s History

In 1918, Stephen Junkunc II emigrated from Hungary and he founded General Machinery & Manufacturing Company, realizing a dream of owning his own machine shop. He began the company as a tool and die shop, and then he and his sons and son in law built the largest casket hardware stamping company in the country up to the outbreak of World War II. They designed and built over 350 casket hardware and dies and molds, as well as hand building a custom roll forming machine for bar handles. During the war, the company converted many areas of the shop over to supporting the war effort, including aerospace manufacturing for Ford Motor Company as a sub-contractor for Pratt & Whitney. Pratt & Whitney was so impressed with the work General Machinery did during the war that in the 1950s, they asked GMMCO to manufacture a special fuel nozzle seal for their new jet engines. GMMCO went on to manufacture a series of highly complex precision fuel nozzle seals for Pratt & Whitney using Brown and Sharpe and Index cam activated screw machines.

Today, General Machinery manufactures high precision turned parts on sophisticated CNC machines at our 25,000 square foot facility in Chicago, Illinois. Our family business is now under the 4th generation leadership of Erik Junkunc. We are an ISO 9001: 2015 & AS9100 Rev D certified company.
