The Municipality owns a state-of-the-art second generation waste management facility and has multi-year agreements with 17 municipal units on Cape Breton Island and the Eastern Mainland. As a result, the Municipality provides waste management services to 230,000 Nova Scotians. This leading initiative reduced the number of landfills in the region from seven to one. The award-winning facility is monitored and maintained to strict environmental standards and a Community Liaison Committee provides vital insight and critical community input.

The Waste Management Facility is located at 151 Waste Management Road off Route 16, Meagher’s Hill, between the communities of Boylston and Lincolnville. It is open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon and closed Sunday and on statutory holidays. (From Highway 104 take exit 37, east toward Guysborough on Route 16, approximately 17 km. The site entrance is located on the left side of the road. Look for the sign. From Guysborough follow Route 16 west approximately 16 km. The site is on the right side.
