A Brief Company History

After the Chicago fire of 1871, Chicago was in an obvious rebuilding stage.  Recognizing a need for quality roofing, August Burke began to ply his trade and in 1878 Aug. Burke Roofing was established.

Over the next several decades Aug. Burke Roofing continued to grow steadily and was eventually passed down to August's son, Stephen Burke.  Servicing Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, Aug. Burke Roofing became a pillar in the roofing community.  Stephen would eventually have sons of his own, one of whom was Robert E. Burke, Sr.

After a distinguished career with The Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bob received honorable discharge papers from J. Edgar Hoover.  Upon his retirement from the FBI, Bob went to work for the family business, Aug. Burke Roofing.

While working alongside his brothers, Robert E. Burke, Sr. realized his own vision and had ideas on how to evolve with the times.  In April of 1965 R.E. Burke Roofing Co., Inc. was founded.  Like his grandfather before him, Bob saw steady growth over the following two decades and became a highly respected member of the roofing community.

Bob's eldest son, Robert E. Burke, Jr., would follow his father's footsteps into the roofing industry. During summer breaks from college, Bob, Jr. would work on the roofs and serve a full roofer's apprenticeship program.  After college Bob Burke, Jr. began working full-time for R.E. Burke Roofing, managing crews and projects.

After the untimely passing of Robert E. Burke, Sr. in the early 1980's, Bob Burke, Jr. became president of R.E. Burke Roofing.  Over the past 30 plus years under his direction, R.E. Burke Roofing continues to evolve with the times while maintaining a no-nonsense old school attitude of quality, attention to detail and exceptional customer service.  This continues to be the driving force behind R.E. Burke Roofing & Sheet Metal.
